Wow, I guess our area is not too important as the presidential motorcade exceeded the speed limit on it's way to the Holland stop.
No body could tell which black vehicle the president could have been on as three black vans turned the corner of Waverly and 48th street speeding at nearly 50 miles an hour and rushing past our group of patriots as well as a group of vocal tree huggers

Mary,
I am not going to either the 8/28 or 9/12 event. I think they are nice feel good events but they will not accomplish anything tangible. The $400 or so could be better spent helping the Tea party or iCaucus or individual candidates who represent our principles. IMHO.

Mary, How best to answer this? There are many 9/12 groups in MI. For the most part, their principles are the same as Tea Parties. Check out the Michigan Tea Party Alliance. http://www.michiganteapartyalliance.com/

On this site, you will find many 9/12 groups. However to be a member of the allance any group (Tea Party or 9/12) must meet certain criteria.

When you say "you don't hear much about 9/12" do you mean regarding events or other news? There is an event coming up July 24 which I believe will draw a big group. I will be talking about car pooling, etc at our meeting this Tuesday, which I hope you can attend.

As for other meetings, events for 9/12 and TPs, across MI, there was a compilation of events on a google calendar and I will try to find it for you.

I'd like opinions on the 9/12 march in DC versus the Beck 8/28 gathering. I hear a lot about Beck's deal, but very little about 9/12. I hate to see dwindling numbers at 9/12 (It was fantastic last year), but I also wonder if my money and time aren't best spent in another way. Which gathering is the most important one to be counted at? Or, is it better to stay in our own state and work on campaigning for a candidate?

Supreme Court Shoots Straight

Today the Supreme Court ended it’s session for the year. As usual, they closed out the year delivering their last few rulings. By a 5-4 vote they got it right on the Second Amendment. The Court ruled for the first time Monday that the Second Amendment provides all Americans a fundamental right to bear arms.

“It is clear that the Framers . . . counted the right to keep and bear arms among those fundamental rights necessary to our system of ordered liberty,” Justice Alito wrote in the majority opinion. The decision does not strike down any other gun control measures currently in place, but it provides a legal basis for challenges across the country where gun owners believe that government rulings have been to restrictive.

The court’s decision means that the Second Amendment — “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” — identifies an individual right to gun ownership, like the freedom of speech, that cannot be unduly restricted by Congress, state laws or city ordinances. Now if Senator Joe Lieberman would just learn to follow the Constitution we wouldn’t have him attempting to give President Obama authority to shut down the Internet.

As President Obama has nominated a person totally unfit to serve on our Supreme Court, it becomes all the more essential that he is a single term President. We can’t afford him to shift the balance of power on the Court.

Note that I made a mistake in my blog yesterday listing the candidates who would speak on April 20. Whoops. It is Bill Huizenga and not Jay Riemersma. Jay will speak at a future meeting to be scheduled.
