Tea Party of West Michigan

Influence policy, effect elections, protect the Constitution.

First, it you have not listened to "common sense radio" live, Go to:

www.whtc.com

And listen to the archived shows.   On the right side of the main page is a "listen live" button. Obviously, you can only listen live to this show between 12:30 and 1:00 on Thursday.  However, below the button are listed several shows.  Click on "common sense radio".  You will see as list of archives for today's and past shows.  You can listen to them anytime on your computer.  Each is only a 1/2 hr.

I'm not looking for "good job".  I get enough of that from local members and the station manager.  What I want is constructive feedback, critical or otherwise.  Specifically:

1. Is success of the show determined by the number of people who call in, especially those who might disagree or foam at the mouth?

2. Is the success gaged by new people joining the tea party group?

3. If success is gaged by opposition call ins, how can we "stir the pot" without being nasty and keeping the high road?

5. I am certain if we talked about Gays, Abortion, Gun rights, Immigration and other divisive issues, it would generate passion.  However, these are single issues and the tea parties are not about limited issues.  We are about fiscal responsibility, limited government and personal liberty.  Yes, all of the issues are components of the above, but how to stir the pot on the high level goals?

6.  If you were not a tea party member, would you find the show interesting enough to listen to?

8.  Any other feedback on the show would be appreciated.

Hi,Jim!
Yes, I heard you and Tina while driving to G.R. to open the American Opinion Bookstore. Was surprised to be able to hear it distinctly all the way, until I had to get off the expressway to cross the Ann St. bridge. Then WHTC's signal got noisy but could still hear you.
Don't be afraid of some controversy. As long as you remain cool and very straightforward and logical, people will be very interested. Also, if you and your guests are always polite, and never cut anyone down merely for disagreeing, your callers will mostly follow suit. It will make a good opportunity to show that Tea Partiers are NOT necessarily of one voice, except of course, our mission statements: Adherence to the Constitution (therefore limited government), lower taxes, no mountains of debt piled up to bury our children, etc.

Details as to types of taxes, or any issues not in our Mission statement, should NEVER be portrayed as being agreed to by all TPers, for the same reason that we don't let any political party claim us either. So long as that is made clear, intelligent listeners would enjoy hearing thoughtful comments, especially on questions they might bring up. To avoid answering them will appear evasive, and you will be thought to be wimpy or no better than slippery politicians.

I think your program went very smooth, especially for a first time! (Or have you done them before)? If you want to have callers, announce the call-in number several times throughout the program.

Good luck! I will look forward to hearing you every week as I drive in from Ottawa County/Robinson Twp.
Helen

Okay, Jim, so you do not want "good job" feedback. So how about, "very good job!"

You and Tina are both excellent voices for the movement --- down to earth, personable, and, of course, so well informed. Plus, you sound very "comfortable" in the medium, which implies confidence ... which enhances credibility .

I could not pick up your signal over the air on radio but gotcha via the internet loud 'n clear. My biggest "criticism" is the lack of air time --- geez, Jim only gets one half hour once a week! That's hardly enough time to get warmed up, but you do make the most of it.

The movement doesn't need another "echo chamber" and more "preaching to the choir" ... feel good tho' it does. To me the best gauge of success is being able to draw in and engage (as many as possible) fence sitters, independents, and those on the Left who are able to rationally discuss & debate issues. They are out there, but given the plethora of competing media venues, getting an appreciable sliver of the ratings pie is a helluvva challenge!

Your time slot being up against and wedged into after the start of both the Right and Left's "very biggest guns" on radio (Rush and Tom Hartmann) has to be daunting. Obviously, your advantage is that you're better able to fully actualize the axiom "all politics is local".

BTW, Jim --- your idea of "recruiting" at venues such as the Beck/O'Reilly gig was excellent. It might be a good idea for TPWMI members to have "contact cards" (similar to business cards) that have the TPWMI logo, brief mission statement, website and contact info --- something that could easily carried and readily handed out when the opportunity presents itself.

Thanks for all you do!

Jarret has a key point. He heard you on the internet.....

What do you think about posting this event and send the message to all members with the intent spelled out, encouraging members to forward the Link etc to friends and family. Maybe this thing will get legs through "viral" e-mails

Jarrett, we have had 1/4 page since the group began, and have handed them out profusely. Recently we added the business card. So you and whoever made the business cards are thinking alike. See what happens to like minds?
