AARP mailing
Apparently AARP is doing a massive mailing to those of us who are over a certain age. I got my mailing but I know it is a big mailing from someone who works for the PO. It presents an opportunity to let them know what we think of them. Obviously, their support for Obamacare didn't sit too well with seniors and Tea party members. As a little background, do you know AARP makes very little from it's membership dues? The biggest piece of their income is Medicare gap insurance. Duh, and I wonder why they wanted the popular advantage program shut down?
The opportunity? This AARP mailing has a business reply envelope. Back in the day when I'd get 4 or 6 Publisher's clearing house mailings a week under several different spellings of my name, they would come with a business reply envelope.
The way a business reply envelope works is the PO scans it and charges postage to the advertiser (AARP). if you throw it away, no postage is charged. However, with tons of junk mail, you end up paying because it adds to volume you pay your trash hauler. Ok, it probably doesn't really add to your trash fee, but it does mean emptying the kitchen trash can more often.
What I used to do was take all the glossy brochures of magazine pictures, letters and all the paper crap, even fold up the envelope they sent it to you, remove any reference to my name or address and jam it all back in the business reply envelope.
Now when the reply envelope is scanned, not only does it charge the advertiser (AARP) but it is overweight and they get charged more. So it's a great way to send a message to AARP and have them take out your trash and pay for it.

I will send it back for sure. I cancelled my membership months ago and the cancellation was acknowledged but of course, I never received my money back as requested. I continue to get all their mailings, including magazines etc.!!!!

I'm to the point where I don't even remove any reference to my name and address. I told them to take me off from their mailing list. They chose not to, so they pay the return postage on anything they insist on sending to me. They're not ashamed of sending it to me, so I'm not ashamed of sending it right back ;o)

BTW--
We keep threatening to send dead fish. WHEN are we going to make it a promise? We can send those sealed pouches of Tuna. Not quite the same, but it's still dead fish, and we won't stink up the P O (Oh darn!).

I do not think Humana is connected with AARP. I joined AMAC (association of mature American citizens). Obviously doesn't have a fraction of AARP's membership but the magazine i get each month is refreshing. it reads like the Glenn Beck show.
Anyhow, i was looking into Medicare options and AMAC has connected with Humana to promote their plans. A guy from Humana came out to my house and we discussed their advantage program. It was pretty good but here in Holland, Priority health has partial ownership of several hospitals, etc so I went with Priority's advantage program. AARP is in full support of killing the advantage programs because they don't offer it. The main advantage of advantage (hey double adjective), is the government gives Priority X dollars a year per covered person on Medicare. Then Priority manages it. the government has no say in it at all. No control, no death panels, etc.

Priority Health is owned by Spectrum Health. They are working on adding Munson Medical Center in TC to their fold and have already added MMPC. The make up of Priority Health polices reflects that.

too liberal, too anti-gun and too pro B H OB! i hope they mail me. i usually delete my name and address and discard.

i am pretty certain humana is not associated with AARP, my wife has had humana for about 5 yrs. medicare gap insurance, seem like a good company.
i also belong to AMAC, much better than AARP, they are growing and should be giving AARP a run for their money.
