At this meeting of UVCKC, the Veterans' March on Lansing will be debriefed. Additionally, what should be done next will be discussed.
What I have learned in a meeting of my FRA post last Friday is that the executive order and senate bill that prompted this protest is a politically-motivated move by the general formerly in charge of Michigan's Department of Military and Veteran Affairs to provide reliable civil-service employment for her friends and associates. This will establish a minimum of one government (read: "taxpayer-financed") bureaucrat per county to handle veteran claims, replacing a very efficient statewide network of Veteran Service Organizations
Additionally, I have learned that lawyers are already beginning to become involved in the veterans' claims process (starting in Detroit, but expect it to spread). This involves an initial up-front cost of $300.00 to the Veteran, plus a percentage of the initial claim payment check. Note that the current system involves no cost whatsoever to the affected Veteran and does not burden the state’s taxpayers.
It is my considered opinion that the UVCKC may welcome TEA Party input and assistance. We owe our country and way of life to those who have willingly signed over their blood and breath to support, defend, protect, and preserve it. Therefore, I am issuing this as an ACTION ALERT to every Veteran and TEA Partyer within driving range of Grand Rapids. Let us join with those already engaged in this fight as a show of force to Governor Granholm, Senator Garcia, General Fasone, and their cronies. This tyranny cannot be permitted to stand.
