Event Description

Last time we passed out a single published sheet on which the powers of FedGov were listed as given to each branch of government. (If you were in that class, bring yours if handy; if not, pick one up on your way in).

We will proceed through the few remaining powers as listed in the Constitution itself, adding to or amending the list as needed. We will also go through the remaining Articles and the Bill of Rights, showing how many things (clichés) that we all "know" were contrary to the facts as written in our founding documents.

State Nullification of Federal Law
In #51 of the Federalist, Madison wrote, "Hence, a double security arises to the rights of the people. The different governments will control each other, at the same time that each will be controlled by itself."

Madison and Jefferson joined forces in the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions of 1798: They "argued that the states constitutionally had the right to refuse not only to comply with unconstitutional actions of the federal government, but also to actively prevent the feds from enforcing them within their state boundaries."
--The New American magazine 3-1-10 p. 12.

We'll cover what we can and maybe determine date(s) for make-up session(s) to take up the slack!

Cheerio! and Thanks to all attendees! --Ruth
